Basic Aid Training (BAT)
Children learn safety information and first aid procedures for breathing difficulties, bleeding, poisoning, burns, shock and other emergencies through an interactive lecture. This kind of training is particularly important since the major causes of injury and death among children under 12 years old are choking, motor vehicle accidents, drowning, and fire and burns. Injuries cause more disability in children than all diseases combined. Each year, injuries lead to 360,000 hospitalizations and 10.4 million emergency room visits. These staggering statistics are frightening, but BAT can help empower children to prevent many of these accidents by teaching basic skills necessary to identify potentially harmful situations, be able to treat common injuries, and respond to emergency situations. The curriculum is geared toward children ages 8 to 10 and can be applied towards different scouting badges (ex: First Aid or Readyman)
