Water Safety Instructor course
This course trains instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the six levels of the Learn to Swim and Parent
& Child Aquatics. This course includes the American Red Cross Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT).
Note: The Instructor course is not designed to teach you the required basic level knowledge or skills. This course is
dedicated to developing the skills you need to instruct and plan courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program.

Prerequisites: Minimum Age of 16 by the last scheduled day of the instructor course.
Successfully complete the pre-course water session:
Demonstrate proficiency in the following: 25 yards each of front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, elementary backstroke,
and side stroke as well as 15 yards of butterfly. Maintain position on back in deep water for 1 minute and tread water
for 1 minute. Attendance at all WSI sessions is MANDATORY.
Candidates will take all classes at the Connection in Summit.
