March is Red Cross Month
Local Transportation Program

Berkeley Heights resident Ron Hoke has been a volunteer driver for our chapter for more than 14 years. Through the Red Cross Transportation Program Hoke and many other volunteers provide a critical service that many community residents have come to depend on. Last year more than 4,500 free rides were provided for ambulatory senior citizens who are residents of Berkeley Heights, Long Hill Township, New Providence, Springfield and Summit to medical and dental appointments, physical therapy and dialysis treatments. Morris County residents should contact the Morris Area Paratransit System (MAPS) at (973) 366-9378 to arrange transportation.
This important program was established in the 1930's and has become a staple community service. Generations of citizens have relied upon the American Red Cross to assist seniors facing mobility challenges.
The Colonial Crossroads Chapter urgently needs volunteer drivers. Hours are flexible, Monday through Friday. Red Cross vehicles are provided; you just need a valid driver's license and an interest in helping neighbors in need. For more information or to help, please contact our Volunteer Department at (973) 377-0455.
For more information about this program, please contact Julie Leung, chapter transportation manager at 908-273-2076, ext. 16.
