Lifeguard Training Program

Course Information

The Colonial Chapter of the American Red Cross will be offering the Lifeguarding training courses at the Summit Family Aquatic Center. The Lifeguard class teaches participants the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. All classes are mandatory. Two certifications are earned from taking this class – CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, valid for one year and Lifeguarding/First Aid, valid for three years. Must pass 80% or higher of the written exam and pass the practical tests to the American Red Cross standard.

  

Lifeguard Challenge

Course Information

Are you already a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard? Is your certification about to expire? Did you know that you can take the Lifeguard Challenge and do not have to repeat the entire course?

The Colonial Chapter of the American Red Cross will be offering the Lifeguard Challenge at the Summit Family Aquatic Center. On the first night of the program, you will be given a book and a pocket mask. You will view all the ARC lifeguarding videos. You then have one week to review the information and formulate questions. The following week you attend three evening classes and are tested. See attached skill sheet for more information.

  

Guardstart Camp

Course Information

The Colonial Chapter of the American Red Cross will be offering a program for youths that provide a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes and skills for future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguarding courses. (This program was known previously as Jr. Lifesaving). You must be able to swim the crawl for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side, tread water for one minute and swim underwater for 10 feet. Bring a lunch. (Red Cross T-shirt upon completion).
