Become a Red Cross Disaster Responder
What's DAT?
DAT is the Disaster Action Team - a cadre of Red Cross-trained and certified volunteers who are on call 24/7 to respond to
emergency situations. Team members report to the scene of an emergency and assess the needs of those affected.
They also provide canteening services to emergency workers at the site. Teams are trained to respond to local, regional
and national disasters.
What training is required?
DAT members must be certified in First Aid and CPR/AED, and take and may take additional specialty courses in their area of
interest such as counseling or driving Emergency Response Vehicles. All disaster training is provided free-of-charge
to team members.
What is the time commitment?
The team holds regular monthly meetings. DAT members list their availability for response to suit their schedules.
How do I join?
To learn more about joining the team, contact Barb Chestnut, Director of Response,
at (973) 377-0455.
You may never work harder, or get dirtier, but it will be the best job you never get paid to do.
