Basic Aid Training (BAT)
Children learn safety information and first aid procedures for breathing difficulties, bleeding, poisoning, burns, shock
and other emergencies through a series of interactive quizzes, activities and games that engage their creativity and
make learning an adventure.
This kind of training is particularly important since the major causes of injury and death among children under 12
years old are motor vehicle accidents, drowning, and fire and burns. Injuries cause more disability in children than
all diseases combined. Each year, injuries lead to 360,000 hospitalizations and 10.4 million emergency room visits.
These staggering statistics are frightening, but BAT can help empower children to prevent many of these accidents by teaching
basic skills necessary to identify potentially harmful situations, be able to treat common injuries, and respond to emergency situations.
The curriculum is geared toward children ages 8 to 10.
Tommy the Safety Cat
Tommy the Safety Cat is targeted for three to six year olds who typically attend Pre-school through early first grade.
Tommy teaches basic safety and first aid in a child friendly manner. We have found that teaching Tommy works best if the
children are gathered in a semi-circle around the instructor. This book is designed so the children see the drawings of Tommy
the Safety Cat while the instructor/teacher can read the pertinent information. The course is designed in an order that
allows activity when attention seems to stray.
This course lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Class size should not exceed 30 students. Optimum class size is 10-15 students.
Scrubby Bear Hand Washing Program
Learning about germs may not be on the top of your child's list of enjoyable activities, but Scrubby bear can make learning
responsible behaviors that reduce and prevent the spread of infectious diseases fun!
The curriculum is geared toward children from kindergarten to third grade and emphasizes the importance of good personal
hygiene and hand washing.
Longfellow's WHALE Tales
Kids who love the water can learn how to be safe by spending an afternoon with Longfellow's WHALE (Water Habits are Learned Early) Tales.
Our water safety program teaches children to recognize the potential dangers of swimming alone and in an unsupervised area,
identify rules for safe participation in water safety activities, identify safe places to swim, ways to rescue yourself in
an aquatic emergency and demonstrate the skills necessary for a safe aquatic rescue.

First Aid for Children Today (FACT)
Help children ages five to eight understand the important role they have in managing their own health and safety as well as
the health of the environment in which they live.
Masters of Disaster®
Become a Disaster Dude! Masters of Disaster® is a disaster safety curriculum integrating disaster safety into Kindergarten to 8th grade students'
daily lesson plans nationwide. Children will learn how to prevent, prepare for, and respond to a disaster in their home, school,
or community. The American Red Cross has developed a disaster safety curriculum for earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods,
lightning, and general disaster preparedness. There are three separate curricula-one for K-2, one for 3-5, and one for 6-8. The
lesson plans can be integrated into core academic subjects: science, math, social studies, and language arts (including reading,
word comprehension, and spelling).
Pet First Aid
This abbreviated version of our Pet First Aid course teaches young pet owners how to act with confidence during an emergency
until their pets reach the veterinarian.
