Medical Equipment Lending
The chapter maintains a loan closet of donated health aids and equipment - including crutches, walkers, commodes, bath chairs
and wheelchairs - free of charge. These items can be very expensive and may only be needed for a short period of time.
We are pleased to be able to provide these critical items to those in need within our communities.
If you would like to borrow medical equipment, or have items to donate that are clean and in like-new condition, please call
the Summit office at (908) 273-2076 or the Madison office at (973) 377-0455.
We cannot accept or do not need the following items:
Bandages
Bedpans
Bedside Tables/Trays
Casts
Diapers/Depends
Electric/Custom Wheelchairs
Food Products
Hospital Beds
Pharmaceutical Products
Blood Pressure Screening
The chapter offers free blood pressure screenings at the Summit office, 695 Springfield Avenue, on the first and third Tuesday
of every month from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Appointments are not necessary. The service, provided by volunteer doctors and nurses,
is also offered at corporate and community health fairs.
For more information, to request a screening at your organization, or if you are a doctor or registered nurse who would like to
volunteer, please contact the Summit office at (908) 273-2076.
Hospital Assistance and Production
Chapter volunteers host ice cream socials and picnics and sew comfort items for patients at Lyons Veterans Administration
Hospital and Morris View Nursing Home. These personal services reflect a long history of partnership between the American
Red Cross and the military. Through the generosity of our volunteers, we are able to touch people's lives in a very personal
way, as a reminder that the community remembers and cares about the men and women who have served their country, as well as
seniors living in our community.
Please visit our volunteer page to learn how you can help with these and other chapter activities.
